More than 300 kilometers of marked hiking trails await you in this special nature reserve. Marked with orange signs, the trails take you through birch forests, over hills with beautiful views, and along crystal-clear lakes. With various shelters, equipped with toilets and often firewood, you can easily spend several days with only your backpack and hiking boots as company.
From the visitor center in Lenungshammar, you can start various short and longer hiking trails. This information center is only 16 kilometers from Glaskogen Apartments, and in the summer, you can take the bus 300 meters from the apartments. Bus 130 runs from June 24 to August 11, 2024, from Karlstad and Arvika to Lenungshammar. Check the current timetable here. If there are no buses running, a transfer from Arvika or from the accommodation is available upon request. Inquire about prices and options.
You can enjoy the diverse hiking trails not only in summer but also in late spring and autumn. The great advantage is that the paths and picnic areas are much quieter during these times.
In spring (April-May), you witness dozens of shades of green slowly returning to the trees. The snow is gone, and everywhere you see life coming back, even in the forests. You also don’t have to worry about mosquitoes in spring. In autumn (September-October), you are treated to stunning colors. This is because Glaskogen is not exclusively populated by pine or spruce trees but also by many birch trees, oaks, and chestnuts. Additionally, the chance of spotting a moose in the evening is very high.
Outside the peak season, the days are naturally a bit shorter, but roughly during daylight saving time (March – October), you have daylight until at least 6:00 PM. And on the longest day, the sun doesn’t set until 10:30 PM!
If you use the infrastructure and facilities of the nature reserve, you must purchase the Glaskogen Card. With this, you contribute to the development and maintenance of this special natural landscape. You can purchase the Glaskogen Card directly online. You choose for 1 or more days and can pay online. You will receive an immediate confirmation, which serves as proof if you are checked in the park.
